The town of Davidson, NC came into being when Davidson College was founded in 1837. The college was originally the town’s government until the town incorporated as Davidson College in 1879. Then, in 1891, the town changed its name to Davidson. Although many of the towns in the Lake Norman area have significantly grown in size and population Davidson has proudly managed to remain relatively small and keep its small town atmosphere. While there are many new additions to the town Main Street looks much like it did 50 years ago. Davidson is walking and biking friendly with many neighborhoods that are within walking distance to town. In addition to the college, Davidson offers a public library, public parks, a premier private golf course community at River Run Country Club and is only minutes from Lake Norman and area shopping and dining, including popular Birkdale Village. In Davidson you’ll find that small town charm with a wide range of housing types and prices with something to offer everyone.
